xSQL Object for SQL Server runs on Windows operating systems that have the .NET framework 4.0 installed.
Workspace - a SQL Server Enterprise Manager style workspace allows you to store the servers, connection information, databases you have chosen to add to the workspace etc. – you can create different workspaces for different sets of servers and databases so that next time you just load the workspace and jump straight into a schema compare session.
Comparison Sessions - another great time saver, allows you to save all the selections you have made like the types of objects you would like to include in the comparison, comparison options you have selected etc. – this is very helpful for situations when you want to periodically perform a comparison/synchronization with a certain configuration.
Schema compare wizard - it's all about saving time, the schema compare wizard eliminates the need for you to figure out how things work in xSQL Object – you just follow the prompts from one step to the other.
Regular expression object filters - for large schema databases selecting the objects you want to compare simply by type may not be enough as that may still leave you with thousands of objects that you may not care to compare – that’s where the schema filters come into play, you can filter just the objects you want by configuring filters based on the object names.
Cross version comparison and synchronization - you can perform a schema compare operation between SQL Server 2008 databases, SQL Server 2005 databases and SQL Server 2000 databases; the engine will compare the objects that are relevant for both sides. The synchronization scripts are version specific – if moving changes from 2000 to 2005 the synch script is a 2005 compliant script and vice versa.
Safe, standardized scripts - the database change script, that is generated based on the results of the schema compare, is wrapped into one big transaction to ensure that the database schema changes will either happen in their entirety or not happen at all. For every object that is affected by the change the scripts are organized in clearly defined sections, the set settings are properly initialized and the errors are logged and handled.
Schema snapshots - allow you to not only maintain a history (audit trail) of the schema changes, but they also provide a very efficient and safe way for reversing schema changes when necessary. Simply compare the database in question with the snapshot of itself, taken right before the changes were made and generate the script for reversing changes.
Unattended comparison and synchronization - the included Command Line utility that can be easily configured through the xSQL Object interface allows you to schedule schema compare and synchronization operations via the Windows Task Scheduler, SQL Server scheduler etc.
Ready to deploy database creation scripts - generate a complete databases script, properly ordered based on the dependencies between the objects, that is ready to deploy on another server.
